About GDP.com.au
GDP.com.au turns public Australian data into numbers you can look up and use: what a suburb earns and pays in rent, how a school compares, what fuel costs this week, and what inflation has done to the weekly shop.
Where the numbers come from
- Suburb profiles: ABS Census 2021 (population, income, rent, mortgage, age and household data), plus state police crime statistics where a state publishes them.
- School profiles: ACARA school profile data (enrolments, ICSEA, staffing). Catchment maps are shown only where a state education department publishes a boundary we could match to the school.
- Economy pages: ABS time series (CPI, Wage Price Index, Labour Force, retail trade, population) and RBA interest rate data.
- Home loans and savings accounts: product data published by banks under the Consumer Data Right.
The full list of datasets, with links to each source, is on the data sources page.
How pages are built
Suburb and school pages are generated from those datasets, one page per place or school. We only ask search engines to index the pages people actually look for: suburbs of 1,000 people or more, schools with 200 or more students or a published catchment, and smaller places that people already search for by name. Other places and schools still have a page on the site; they are just kept out of search results.
Calculators are built and maintained by us. Each one states its assumptions on the page. They are general information, not financial advice.
